Doug Steele

Cypress Hills

Doug was first elected MLA for Cypress Hills in the 2016 provincial election and was re-elected in 2020 and 2024. 


From manager of a local elevator to the marketing manager of an Inland terminal, Doug worked in the grain industry for 19 years. He served on numerous committees in southwest Saskatchewan including the Southwest Municipal Government Committee and the Southwest Area Transportation Committee.


Doug served as Reeve and Councillor for the RM of Gull Lake for 20 years, as well as on the Board of Directors for the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM). Throughout his time with SARM, he was a member of several committees. 


Doug was awarded the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal in 2005, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 and the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022. 


Doug currently serves as a member of the Crown and Central Agencies Committee, the SaskBuilds Committee and as the Government Caucus Chair. 


Doug has served as chair of the Private Bills committee and as Legislative Secretary to the Minister responsible for SaskPower and SaskEnergy. Doug has also been Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Resources, and a member of the Standing Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs and Justice and the Standing Committee on the Economy. Doug currently serves as the Caucus Chair. 


Doug and his wife own and operate a fourth-generation family farm. They have three grown children and four grandchildren.
