SWIFT CURRENT-Saskatchewan Party Leader Brad Wall received a phone call yesterday afternoon from Prime Minister designate Stephen Harper.
"I offered my sincere congratulations to him and his 12 Saskatchewan colleagues," Wall said.
"We also had a chance to speak about issues of importance to this province."
Wall said he reiterated the very difficult situation facing agriculture producers and encouraged the Prime Minster designate to move quickly on the Conservative agricultural platform.
"We also discussed the need for a new equalization formula that is fair to Saskatchewan, one that removes non-renewable resource revenue from calculations for payments to our province. I also introduced the concept of making a new deal for Saskatchewan retroactive to April 1, 2006," Wall said.
"I believe Mr. Harper understands the priorities of Saskatchewan people and I look forward to a positive working relationship with the new federal government."
Wall said he also indicated to the Prime Minster designate that he will be heading to Ottawa to work on these and other issues on behalf of the province.
