Tim grew up on his family farm, 20 miles east of Lloydminster, near where the McMillan family homesteaded more than 100 years ago. It was in these formative years on the farm that the spark of political interest was lit and fostered in a family that was very involved in their community.
Mr. McMillan attended the University of Victoria where he received a degree in Economics. During the summers of his university career, Mr. McMillan worked fighting forest fires for the British Columbia Forest Service.
After his schooling, Mr. McMillan traveled and worked abroad extensively. His travels have taken him from hiking to the Mount Everest Base Camp to diving on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
Mr. McMillan is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and spent a year contracting as an IT professional in London, England. Mr. McMillan then returned to his family farm to establish a business and raise his family.
Prior to his election in 2007, Tim operated an Oilfield Service Company. His understanding of both the oil industry and agricultural sector coupled with his background in economics, make Tim the ideal representative for Lloydminster as an economic powerhouse in Saskatchewan. Tim was re-elected in the 2011 provincial election.
In June 2010, Tim joined the provincial cabinet as the Minister responsible for Crown Investments Corporation, Saskatchewan Government Insurance, Information Services Corporation, and the Information Technology Office. In September of 2010, Tim was also appointed as the Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA).
In November 2011 Tim was appointed by the Premier to the Treasury Board at present he is Chair of Crown Investments Corporation Board of Directors of Saskatchewan and Chair of Saskatchewan Development Fund Corporation.
After the 2012 cabinet shuffle, Tim was appointed to the Minister responsible for Energy and Resources, Minister responsible for Tourism Saskatchewan, Minister responsible for Trade and the Minister responsible for SaskEnergy Incorporated. He currently is a member of Treasury Board, a member of Investment Board and a member of Red Tape Committee.
Tim and his wife Ali, have two daughters, Reilly and Gracie.
