Hon. Randy Weekes
Biggar
On his farm, in his church and in his community, Randy Weekes has deep roots in the Biggar constituency.
Randy was born in Biggar and grew up on the family farm. After graduating from Biggar Composite High School, Randy studied at the University of Saskatchewan and received a Diploma in Agriculture. Randy also earned his Competent Toastmaster award (CTM) with Toastmaster International and returned to farm and ranch with his family.
Randy is an active member of his community. He is a member of St. Gabriel's Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He has served as chair of the Biggar Knights of Columbus Trade and Craft Show and as a provincial director of Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus. He is past chair of the Saskatchewan Feeder Co-op Association and a past member of the Board of Directors for Saskatchewan Cattle Feeders Association.
Randy was first elected in 1999 and re-elected in 2003, 2007 and 2011. During his terms in opposition, Randy served as the critic for the Environment, Labour, and Highways and Transportation. He also served as deputy critic for Immigration, and for Information Services Corporation. Randy was also vice-chair of the Legislature's Economy Committee and served on the Standing Policy Committee for Public Resource Management, the Legislative Committee on Agriculture, the Legislative Committee on Continuing Select and Non-controversial Bills, and on the Caucus Management Committee. Randy was also Deputy House Leader.
After the Saskatchewan Party formed the government in November of 2007, Premier Brad Wall asked Randy to serve as Government Whip.
In May 2012, Premier Brad Wall appointed Randy as the Minister Responsible for Rural and Remote Health and as a member of Caucus Management Committee.
In February 2013, he was also appointed as a member of the New Ideas Committee.
Randy says what he enjoyed most about being an MLA is "meeting and interacting with his constituents and helping them with their problems and concerns." The best thing about Saskatchewan, according to Randy, is "its people, its diverse landscape and its unlimited economic potential."
Randy and his wife Cindy live near Biggar.
