Mr. Paul Merriman
Saskatoon Sutherland
Paul Merriman was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in the 2011 provincial election.
Born and raised in Toronto, Paul moved to Saskatchewan with his family in 1988. His father, Ted Merriman, served as the Saskatchewan Party MLA for Saskatoon Northwest for one term from 2003 to 2007. Paul says his father’s involvement in politics piqued his interest in the government.
Paul has lived and worked in Saskatoon since 1994. Recently, he was the Executive Director of the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre. During his tenure with the Food Bank, Paul has worked diligently to increase funding and decrease costs. Prior to his employment with the Food Bank, he was employed with SaskEnergy for eight years setting up a province-wide salvage operation of used material that generated corporate savings for the Crown Corporation in excess of $8 million. He has also operated two small businesses.
Paul’s experience working with government, the private sector, and numerous community-based organizations gives him a broad understanding of the issues facing Saskatoon residents.
"I thought I could bring a well-rounded background at a young age to the caucus table and provide a strong voice for the people of Saskatoon Sutherland," he said of his decision to run for office.
Paul says he is proud of the progress the Saskatchewan Party government has made when it comes to the province’s social programs, specifically the creation of a separate income support program for people with disabilities, as well as support for Community Based Organizations.
He is a member of Crown Investments Corporation Board and a member of the Human Services CPC and Standing Committee.
In February 2013, Paul was appointed as Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Economy for Immigration.
Paul and his wife, Leane Durand, a small business owner herself, have four children.
