Ken Krawetz

Deputy Premier Minister of Education
Ken Krawetz has lived and worked in the Canora-Pelly area all of his life, with the exception being the time he spent at the University of Saskatchewan where he obtained a Bachelor of Education. Mr. Krawetz began a teaching career in Invermay in 1972 and taught for 11 years until he decided to pursue a business venture. He was elected to the Canora School Division Board of Education and served as the chairperson for nine years. During this time, he also spent six years on the Saskatchewan School Trustees Association, serving two years as its president.
Mr. Krawetz owned and operated an insurance brokerage from 1983 to 1993 in his hometown of Invermay. He continues to operate the family farm. He has served three terms as the MLA for the Canora-Pelly constituency and was re-elected again in the 2007 provincial election.
As a devoted hockey player and an overall sports fan, Mr. Krawetz still plays on his hometown hockey team and is seen frequenting hockey rinks and ball fields throughout the province. He has also had a 35-year love of volleyball and is a provincially registered volleyball official.
Mr. Krawetz was a member of the Invermay Kinsmen Club for more than 25 years and worked at many Telemiracles. His extensive dedication and volunteer work has earned him several awards including the Canada 125 Award in 1993, the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002, and the Centennial Medal in 2005.
Mr. Krawetz is the Deputy Leader of the Saskatchewan Party and during his terms in Opposition, he served a number of major critic portfolios including Labour, Health and Finance. He was also the interim leader of the Saskatchewan Party and Leader of the Official Opposition from 1997 to 1999.
Mr. Krawetz currently resides on the family farm with his wife Gail. Gail is a teacher and principal at Invermay School. Their son Bryce teaches school in Strasbourg and their daughter Lindsay has completed her degree in Business Administration at the University of Regina and now works in Calgary.
